Associate Professor in Cultural Education and Indigenous Processes of Art, Dr. Mel congratulations! Unfortunately I find all your performances and lectures as well as Verena& yours on YumiPiksa as from as PNG local stories, culture and knwoledge are bit superficial. I would really invite comments from past or present staff and students from University of Goroka to make some comments. Art all of these things both Verena and Dr. Mel are involved in worth the funding they are receiving? I am asking this because of all the comments so far on this site and those deleted ones on YumiPiska site. Only Verena can answer that. Thank you. Doreen Vale

Congratualtions to all of you at Christensen Fund for funding the Exhitibition. My sincere request would be to help fund Assoc.Prof. Mel and them to showcase their arts/performances/ lectures in PNG first befor ethey go overseas. Assoc.Prof. Mel has never performed here in PNG, let along at University of Goroka. PNG doesn’t know him as a curator, a performer, or a promoter of PNG art, culture, and traditions. It is rather odd that he is always going oversea to perform but never here on his home soil – not even as a Mogei. What is the truth? A proud PNG promoter of culture. Paul S. Kelly – Mt. Hagen.

I am becoming quite keen on following the site now that more PNG’s are making comments. Obviously there are similar issues being raised throughtout this site. PNG artsists and performers and what have you need to showcase themselves here in PNG as a group themselves esp. this Hailanstoailens. In particular if it is managed by University of Goroka. Perhaps the group can stage something at UOG where Asso.Prof. Mel is PVC –and the Manager of this group. PNG people are asking to see you guys perform here for us to see and appreciate before you market us overseas. It seems only fair. Thank you. Roger.

Congratulations to Dr. Mel and others who are doing great stuff in promoting us overseas. More importnatly to the Christensen fund for making it possible. We would like more publicity given to PNG’s art and cultures which are so unique. But, can these artists perform for us here in PNG or Dr. Mel at University of Goroka – you have yet to organise one at your University for the nation of PNG to come and appreciate the talents of its artists and performances. I am a bilum maker myself but I didn’t know of a Cathy Kata until now. And she, Dr. Mel and Tom Deko live at UOG. Come on – arrange something at UOG. Why do bring them overseas for outsiders to view when we, the displaced, exiled people from our own cultures due to colonisation are trying desperately to find our place in our own societies. We need to address those critical issues here in PNG with your expertise and leadership we can heal our nation. Over to you Assoc.Prof. Mel. and the Christensen Fund. Just observation. Angie

Yes, I am coming to hear so much about Ass.Prof.Mel’s performance overseas thru this website and how successful he is there. Congratulations to him for gaining some world attention but the it is sad that as a nation, we have yet to see him perform, hear him deliver public lectures, to really appreciate what he is on about over there. Why hasn’t he performed here in PNG for the PNG audience? Are we less talented to appreciate his performances? What is the truth? A true PNG comment. Daniel I. Tope.

Glad to see a fellow Papua New Guinean take lead in promoting PNG diverse cultures and traditions abroad! Papua New Guineans need to appreciate artists like him. Can Asso.Prof. Mel start performing here in PNG for the home crowd? We have yet to see him perform not just to see and hear about his successes overseas only. Thank you Christensen Fund.

As originally a teacher at an educational institution, I am blessed to read the University of Goroka taking a vital role in voicing the Papua New Guinean culture in a global scale. Having a place in the culture identifies who you really are amongst so many others globally. This exercise establishes or re-establishes pride amongst the practitioners and encourages others as well. I salute and thank The Christensen Fund to believe in this exercise.
