Assoc.Prof. Mel, where to next or what to do after you return to PNG and back to University of Goroka? Any major exhibitions happening there? Any public lecturers at UOG? A repeat of what you just did overseas would be appreciated. Many of these comments are challenging you to get out there and do something on your own. For instance, taking part in the annual students’ cultural show i Mogei bilas. Have you ever done that? A real role model for your students there.

Hi Dr. Mel,

Welcome back to PNG! Just followingup on my earlier request to have your pferformances overseas aired on EMTV or Kundu 2 would be great if you could along YUMIPiska’s – three films. We have yet to see it in PNG before they go overseas as these sort of things have a way of doing. Specifically to Tahiti next I see. Thank you. Jacinta.

I have viewed the videos of Dr. Mel’s performances overseas. My comment is:
My first impression was that it seemed as though not much thought had gone into the organization of the concepts and issues that he tried to bring to light.
As a Papua New Guinean , I kind of felt that some of the issues that he eluded to were not given any justice.
However, it is the arts and his interpretation was his take I guess. Thank you. KK

Sorry, My comment was specifically referring to Dr. Mel and Verena Thomas’s work on Yumipiksa website. Not this one. Your are doing a great job in posting all the comments made so that others like myself would like to view what others think and the comments they make. Unfortunately if Dr. Mel reads this he might tell me why YumiPiksa has deleted about 7-8 messages posted there. Not very complimentary but still good criticisms should be welcomed for improvements. There’s where my comments were post for several days and deleted. Thank you, Dan. Jacinta.

Thanks again for your suggestions, Jacinta. I’m not sure if you’re referring to comments missing on this site or another. There shouldn’t be comments missing here.

Could you arrange for Kundu or EMTV to aired the videos or DVDs of your performances overseas? Also the three films made by Verena Thomas and the students at UOG? Can’t access the YumiPiska guestbook to post any messages anymore..Amazing how more critical messages, observations, comments for improvements have been deleted from the site. My own messages too. Congratulations to you for what you doing or rather trying to do so hard but not really doing justice to all that we are and have as Papua New Guineans. Pasin bilong ples is reallly our legacy left to us by ol tumbuna. Why have you never before for us here in PNG or at UOG as a peformer, artists, etc….? The other emails are expressing the same sentiments, Dr. Mel. If you have not. Do your children speak either Melpa and have their dressed in Mogei cultural bilas? You would then know what cultural is all about –living it and knowing it and own it. Thank you. J. Kundi

Congratulations, Dr. Mel on your involvement in YumiPiska. This is a great initiative to record not only stories and local knowledge but most importantly what you are on about with your group.
My only request would be for students to doucment as much as possible the orginal languages and cultures before they all die out. However, they must be done well and with advise from the village elders – must be endorsed as genuine. Thank you. Simpson.

Source funding not for yourself and few others to promote PNG globally but do more cultural enriching and promotional things in PNG. As a true true of PNG, do it in PNG first. You have yet to appreciate your Mogei culture and other PNG cultures by encouraging and mentoring others by way of tours, workshops and performances nationwide (PNG). Why go overseas when you haven’t perform here. Organize exhitibitons and peformances at University of Goroka – you haven’t yet so why not now when you return to PNG. You have done well overseas now show your true colors here on the homefront. Looking forward to seeing your performances or attending your public lectures. Thank you. D. Alu

Congratulations to you, Asso.Prof. Mel! You are doing great oversea and getting recognized for whatever you are soing over there. Can you start promoting and reviving nationally in PNG first ? With the stuff you are doing overseas, you should really do nationally with all those artists and others artistsfor all PNG to appreciate ourselves better and learn to appreciate our own diversity.
